Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

Business Central is connected online as well as in your own data centre, through Microsoft's standard API. Items come out as Commerce Bundle products, with description, GTIN, unit, price and inventory — and go into every shop with the same mapping.

In the other direction, orders are created as sales orders; posted shipments come back with the lines delivered.

Building blocks

Seven building blocks for Business Central

  • Read itemsRead

    Reads items as Commerce Bundle products, in full or only those changed since the last run, with description, GTIN, unit, price and inventory.

  • Read inventoryRead

    For the stock sync, reads only the item number and inventory of stock items.

  • Hand over ordersWrite

    Creates orders as sales orders — with delivery address, with the prices paid net or gross and with shipping costs if needed. Known orders are skipped; if Business Central rejects a line, no half order is left behind.

  • Read sales ordersRead

    Reads sales orders back with their state, posted shipments with the lines delivered — the basis for the shipment report to the shop.

  • Cancel sales ordersWrite

    Deletes the sales order when the order was cancelled in the shop — as long as nothing of it has been shipped or invoiced.

  • Read master data and documentsRead

    Reads, with Business Central's field names, customers, vendors, contacts, invoices, credit memos, shipments, item data and value lists.

    For everything there is no ready-made building block for: a request to the API, with the stored credentials.

In practice

Two workflows with Business Central

  1. Items and inventory into the shop

    Business Central holds items and inventory; the shop should show the same state.

    One mapping onto the Commerce Bundle, and the last building block decides which shop is written.

  2. Orders as sales orders

    Orders from the shop and marketplaces should end up as sales orders in Business Central without manual work.

    1. Triggerthe shop's webhook or a schedule for the marketplaces
    2. Customera fixed collective customer, an existing customer with the order's e-mail address or an explicitly assigned customer number
    3. Hand overas a sales order, prices net or gross, with shipping costs
    4. Read backposted shipments with the lines delivered

    No order is re-entered by hand, none is created twice, and no half order is left behind when Business Central rejects a line.

What to know about Business Central

  • PrerequisitesWhat has to be set up on your side.
    • An application registered in Microsoft Entra and enabled in Business Central
    • In your own data centre, alternatively a user with a web service access key
    • A system reachable over HTTPS
  • Not coveredWhat ConFlowIO does not write, and what Microsoft's standard API does not carry.
    • Items, prices and customers are read but not written to Business Central
    • The same goes for inventory — it comes out of Business Central, not in
    • The standard API carries no tracking numbers and no inventory per location
    • Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain is a different product and not covered
